Wizway and IDFM Crowned as 2024 Calypso Award Winners

Not-for-profit transport ticketing association celebrates outstanding customer value and innovation from within its member community

Paris, France. 13 December 2024. Calypso Networks Association (CNA), the member-led global community of ticketing innovators, has announced the winners of its annual Calypso Awards. In a ceremony held as a part of the Calypso Open Session in Paris, Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) was announced as the winner of “Best Customer Value”, while Wizway was awarded “Best Innovation”.

“Each year the Calypso Awards present us with outstanding examples of the fantastic work of operators and authorities as they deliver trusted, reliable and agile ticketing, and access control solutions,” commented Gianluca Cuzzolin, CNA Chairman. “Our nominees for 2024 highlighted how the freedom and flexibility of open standards empowers operators and authorities to take full control over their systems and create solutions that meet the unique needs of their network and their customers. After much deliberation from the judges, we are delighted to congratulate this year’s worthy winners.”

The Best Customer Value award recognises users of Calypso who offer customers innovative services, enabling easier access to public transport, promoting sustainable mobility, and showcasing the performance of the open Calypso Standard. IDFM was selected as the winner in this category for becoming the first transit authority in Europe to provide its users with a full mobile contactless transit ticketing experience on iOS. The successful launch meant that Paris could boast world-leading transport ticketing in time for the 2024 Olympics.

Other finalists in this category were SNCF for its ‘Screen Card’ proof of concept, providing a real-time ticketing update to cardholders from a Calypso electronic card; and Nagels and Keolis, for implementing the first large-scale deployment of Calypso Basic, in Orléans.

The award for Best Innovation rewards providers of Calypso who have developed and set up Calypso-based products, components, software, or processes that enhance the Calypso offer and support global adoption of the open Calypso Standard. The winner of this award also played a key role in delivering iOS ticketing for the Paris Olympics, as Wizway created a solution that allows for the seamless purchase and validation of Calypso based tickets natively within the users iPhone.

Other finalists in this category were Thales, for its 100% PVC-free card body for Calypso Prime cards, supported by Calypso’s enhanced reload allowance, enabling cards to be used longer; and SNCF, for its full ticketing system based on Keyple. This included mobile reloading on Android and iOS apps, which is unique in the ticketing world – enabling reloads of Calypso Prime, Light and Basic cards from the mobile phone.

The annual Calypso Awards bring together the global community of CNA members to share ideas and use cases that are helping to push the boundaries of possibility. As well as the victorious entries from Wizway and IDFM, finalists included SNCF, Keolis, NAGELS, and Thales. The winners were selected by a panel of experts that included CNA’s Chairman, its COO, technical experts and previous Calypso Award winners.
