Calypso Networks Association announces SNCF’s Yann Chermat as new Chief Operational Officer

Not-for-profit transport ticketing association welcomes its new COO, Yann Chermat, who joins following the retirement of Philippe Vappereau

Paris, France. 5 March 2024 – Calypso Networks Association (CNA), the member-led organisation that unites transport operators and authorities to evolve contactless ticketing systems through open standards, has announced the appointment of Yann Chermat as its new Chief Operational Officer (COO).

Yann will lead CNA’s permanent team, joining from Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF) Voyageurs where he served as Technical Expertise Manager for Electronic Ticketing. In this role, Yann helped develop a nationwide ticketing offer that helped to drive open and innovative mobility solutions throughout France.

“I have been a part of the CNA community for over fourteen years, during which time I have seen the rich and vibrant membership the organisation brings together and the true value of collaboration,” said Yann. “In my role at SNCF, we helped support the development of the Calypso open standard and went on to become one of the early adopters of Eclipse Keyple, the open source Software Development Kit (SDK). I therefore hope to help fellow members of the transport ecosystem replicate this success and grow the Calypso community further.”

Gianluca Cuzzolin, Chairman of CNA, added, “I am very pleased to welcome Yann as the new COO of Calypso Networks Association. By appointing our COO from one of CNA’s founding members, we are ensuring continuity within our leadership while bringing in new ideas and perspectives that will help us continue to meet the needs of the members that we serve.”

This appointment comes following the retirement of Philippe Vappereau, who served at the head of the organisation with distinction for fifteen years. Over the course of his tenure, CNA became a global leader in modern ticketing solutions, creating an open standard offer that includes both physical and digital solutions, for its members around the world.

Under the new leadership, CNA will continue to meet the diverse needs of the transit ticketing community. It has recently announced enhancements to its mobile ticketing offer through the publication of version 2.0 of the Calypso Applet, offering full support of Calypso Prime Regular, Extended & Prime PKI features. Meanwhile, its Security Technical Committee is currently developing an open Secure Access Module with a view to sharing it with the ticketing community in 2024.
