Key takeaways from the CNA Open Tech Day and Open Session 2025

Transport ticketing players convened in Paris on 3 December 2025 for the CNA Open Tech Day, held alongside the annual Open Session. The events brought together transport operators, authorities, technology providers, and community members to share real-world insights, explore technical innovations, and discuss the future of open ticketing standards.

Across a full day of presentations, workshops, and collaborative sessions, attendees gained a comprehensive view of the priorities that will shape our world in 2026 and beyond.

Regulation and compliance in the spotlight

Regulatory compliance and policy frameworks were a central theme of the event. CNA COO, Yann Chermat, led a panel discussion featuring representatives from international institutions, operators and suppliers. The speakers considered current and emerging regulations affecting electronic ticketing technologies, including EU frameworks such as CRA, DORA, and NIS2 (respectively, Cyber Resilience Act, the Digital Operational Resilience Act, and the Network and Information Systems Directive 2).

Participants explored the implications of these regulations for operators, authorities and vendors, engaging in discussions to identify risk and liabilities. Stakeholders face immense pressure to keep up with all these regulations. The Calypso community is making sure no member will have to do this alone, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance security and compliance

CNA Open Tech Day : Strategic priorities and technical roadmaps

The event highlighted several technical priorities for the coming year, including Secure Access Module (SAM) updates, mobile ticketing, interoperability and Account-Based Ticketing.

The ABT Technical Committee workshop was a great example of CNA’s role in supporting the community with educational opportunities and specifications that are designed by ticketing players, for ticketing players. We were pleased to see so many new faces join the session to gain an understanding of CNA’s work in this area: what has been done already, current work items, and a look at what’s coming next. Feedback after the session revealed keen interest in following the group’s progress throughout 2026.

The Keyple Technical Committee invited attendees to share their needs and expectations of using the open source SDK, with a wide range of deployment insights and questions coming from terminal suppliers and user operators. If you would like to contribute your experiences, please contact us and we will share them on the Keyple website.

Attendees also appreciated the opportunity to receive an in-person ‘beginners’ guide’ to test tools and contributions, including a brief introduction to the CNA test plan. These will be a key focus for the association in the first half of 2026.

Calypso Awards for innovation and customer value

The annual Calypso Awards once again recognised outstanding contributions within the community over the last 12 months. Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML) won the award for “Best Customer Value”, while “Best Innovation” was awarded to Billettique Services.

TML was recognised for its Navegante® Empresas offer, an app-based solution that simplifies access to public transport passes and encourages businesses to subsidise employee mobility using tax incentives, making sustainable travel more convenient in Lisbon.

Billettique Services was awarded for integrating the Eclipse Keyple SDK into terminals, streamlining ticketing integration, reducing maintenance costs, and passing savings on to passengers, lowering the overall cost of travel.

Community Engagement and Networking Outcomes

Beyond the formal sessions, the event provided opportunities for networking and open collaboration that only the Calypso community can provide. Delegates from around the world gathered to share contemporary challenges and practical solutions, while exploring potential partnerships with fellow industry leaders.

The events reaffirmed CNA’s commitment to open standards, collaboration and innovation. It sets the foundation upon which further developments will build in 2026, supporting interoperability, certification and compliance, and technical excellence across transport systems worldwide.

A huge thank you to our sponsors for 2025, without whom the event wouldn’t be possible: AVM, CB, Cubic, Elitt, ENBI – Empresa Nacional de Bilhética Integrada, HID – Camell Group, Interparking, Infineon, Landkreis Konstanz, Nagels, Planeta Informática, RATP Group, SNCF, Spirtech, STIB/MIVB, Thales, Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa and Watchdata,
